What's in a name?
The website was purchased for Maryam by her family in 2001 after she received her doctoral degree. Maryam is a healthcare administrator by training and considers herself to be a patient advocate.
As such, the website activepatients was chosen and given to her as a gift. She believes that patients need to be "active" in their own healthcare and need to play a role in determining what is the best course of action for them.
